St. Lucie Kiriri Girls High school is a full boarding school founded on Christian principles.
The school is situated 6.5 Km off Nairobi-Thika Road, South East of Kenyatta University on Githurai-Kimbo Road in Githurai sub-county.
It is among the first private schools established in Kenya’s academic history. It is also interesting to note that the school is Christian-inclined to an extent that it has a parish for the students — a resident catholic priest and a resident chapel.
St. Lucie Kiriri Girls was established in 1992 to offer the local 8-4-4 system of education and the British National Curriculum: Cambridge IGCSE.
Of interest is the fact that each class in this institution accommodates only 25 students for 8-4-4 system and 15 for IGCSE. So congestion is a rumour.
The rest of the facilities here are pleasant too. For example, the dormitories consist of spacious cubicles accommodating four to eight students each, and each dorm is well equipped with modern washrooms and hot water system. That’s special.
But what will wow you and make you wonder whether the school is actually found in Githurai, is the diet. The food menu contains, among other meals, buttered bread, spiced meat, fruits, liver casserole, fish and chips. No githeri!
Apart from the normal outdoor games, students here play indoor games which include chess, scrabble, darts and table tennis.
Students and teachers view education as life guided by their motto, ‘Elimu ni Uhai’ — a Kiswahili phrase for ‘Knowledge is life’.
From here, most students qualify to various universities and colleges in Kenya, across UK, USA, South Africa and Australia.
Just to mention, prominent people in the society including Sudanese leader Salva Kiir, politician Sospeter Ojaamong and NCIC chairman Francis Ole Kaparo’s daughters all wore the white shirts, blue skirts and blue sweaters of St. Lucie Kiriri Girls.
Capital FM presenter Mandi Sarro aka Miss Mandi, musician Sanaipei Tande and model Wendy Mueni, who was 2015 Miss Kenya first runner up, are alumni of the school.
