Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor dies aged 54 after suffering cardiac arrest

Legendary Bollywood star Sridevi Kapoor has died aged 54.

The actress passed away on Saturday night after suffering a cardiac arrest in Dubai, her family confirmed.

The veteran actress and her family were in the United Arab Emirates for a wedding, her brother-in-law told the Indian Express.

She is believed to have been with her husband, producer Boney Kapoor, and daughter Khushi when she died.

Sridevi began her acting career aged just four when she starred in M.A. Thirumugham’s devotional “Thunaivan.”

She made her Bollywood debut aged 12 in the film “Julie,” and landed her first adult role in the following year in K. Balachander’s “Moondru Mudichu” opposite Kamal Hassan.

She became a Bollywood household name with her first leading role in “Solva Sawna” and “Himmatwala", starring in numerous films throughout the 1980s and 90s.

After a 15-year hiatus, the mother-of-two returned to acting in 2012 with the blockbuster “English Vinglish.”

Her last film was the 2017 movie “Mom.”

Baywatch star Priyanka Chopra tweeted: “I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi. A dark day. RIP.”

“Lion” actress Priyanka Bose wrote: “She broke all conventions with her skill and still brought so much grace in all she did.”
