Change of guard: Uhuru attends church service with new aide-de-camp (ADC)

President Uhuru Kenyatta has a new aide-de-camp (ADC), Lt Col Victor Mburu Uhuru attended a church service with the new ADC in Ngong on Sunday An ADC's role is mostly ceremonial and follows the President whenever he goes out on official duties

The ADC, Lt Col Victor Mburu, accompanied the President to a church service in Ngong yesterday.

He replaces Col Peter Njiru, who has been with the President for more than three years, who is going for further studies.

An ADC's role, which is performed by a military officer, is mostly ceremonial; to give the presidency dignity and honour. The ADC usually follows the President whenever he goes out on official duties.

Mr Mburu's diary will revolve around escorting Uhuru out of State House into a waiting car, opening the door, then standing at attention and saluting when the President sits on the back seat.

The ADC then closes the door and occupies the front passenger seat. He, at times, carries the President's personal items like mobile phones and speeches. He also receives gifts or other items on behalf of the President.

ADCs are more visible during public events, but retire to their residences once the President takes a break.

The ADC works closely with the Presidential Escort Unit Commander, the man directly in charge of Uhuru's personal security and that of close family members.

President Jomo Kenyatta's ADC was a Major Macharia.

Macharia was inherited by Kenyatta's successor Daniel arap Moi before he was replaced by Major Peter Ngugi Ikenye.

Colonel Wilson Boinnet then took over from Ikenye. Boinnet was replaced by Colonel Alexander Sitienei after he became head of National Security Intelligence Service.
