Sofapaka's newly acquired midfielder Humphrey Mieno is the most expensive signing in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) transfers so far confirmed in the January window.
The midfielder, who rejoins the team from Tanzanian side Azam FC cost the club US$15,000, (approx. Kshs 1.3m) - 2015
It gets even more juicer. Unsettled one-time Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia jewel Patrick Oboya finds a new home at Tusker together with new teammate, little-known Stephen Owusu of Ghana and Humphrey Mieno, who now commands the highest transfer fee paid out this season at Sh500,000. (2014)
(2013 ) Gor have listed six players as those that they have signed for this season. They include Abbey Natty formerly of Muhoroni Youth, Israel Emuge from Kina Young in Uganda, Innocent Mutiso (Mathare United), David Otieno (Western Stima), Zachary Onyango (Coffee Board) and Paul Kiongera (KCB). The former KCB man was the most expensive signing and cost Gor Mahia Sh400, 000 though both clubs insist he has been signed on loan. Another expensive signing is AFC Leopards midfielder Patillah Omoto who cost the club Sh400, 000.
2012: But the most memorable event that everybody can recall is the 'Eric Masika saga'. The most expensive player in the recent transfer window was a centre of controversy between his former club Gor Mahia and current club AFC Leopards.
However, after a long tussle, finally an agreement was reached on with AFC dishing out Kshs 450,000 to buy the player from arch-rivals K'ogalo.
All in all, some of the highly touted players traded this season may not have as familiar feel as compared to those in the previous deals but truth be said, they're arguably the exciting players to be watched this season.
2011: International Levy Muaka could become the most expensive local player when his move from Nairobi City Stars to 2007 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker is finalised this week. The brewers are said to have set aside Sh300,000 to land the marauding left foot attacker, a figure that would make him the most expensive ever in the KPL.
