Despite having solid field training, CIA analyst Susan Cooper has spent her entire career desk-bound, working hand-in-hand with dashing agent Bradley Fine. Using high-tech equipment and a hidden earpiece, Susan is the guardian angel and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions.

However, when Bradley is assassinated by Bulgarian arms dealer Rayna Boyanov and another top agent is compromised, Susan volunteers to go undercover on her first assignment as a divorced housewife to help capture Boyanov and avenge Bradley.

Thumbs Up
The unconventional feminist spy story is veryinviting and it helps that Melissa McCarthy’s crude humour works. There is a good balance between the action and the comedy and an excellent cast to support it. It also gives hope to feminists, especially the fat ones, that their dreams can come true if they only get out of their comfort zone.

Thumbs Down
Though McCarthy takes the lead comedy role, at some point one feels like Jason Statham steals the show with his surprise comedy performance. Maybe that is because we are not used to him in comedy roles. One could also do without the heavy dosage of the F-word.

Verdict
I cannot remember the last time I laughed this hard. But you may want to watch it alone as opposed to watching it in the theatre since there was so much laughing from the crowd, I missed some of the jokes.
