There are two famous ‘precious blood’ schools in Kenya: One is in Riruta, the other in Kilungu, Makueni County. Both are Catholic sponsored under the Missionaries of the Precious Blood who came to Kenya, first at Bura, in 1909.

Precious Blood, Kilungu was founded as a mission in 1940 before an intermediate school was established six years later. It remained so for 15 years when it became a secondary school in 1961, the year it adopted the name, Precious Blood Secondary - Kilungu. Students then sat for the British Cambridge system.
