Popular Artist Betty Bayo's husband was exposed for demanding money for miracles |
Betty Bayo is no stranger to controversy. From accusations of refusing to pay dancers to a secret wedding that she would not divulge much information on, there is little that this self-made singer has not seen.
However, after an expose by a local TV station of a rogue pastor famous for asking his congregation to panda mbegu (sow a financial seed), Kenyans were fast enough to discover that the man happens to be Betty Bayo’s hubby.
In the expose, the televangelist gauges the financial needs of his congregant before determining how much ‘seed’ they need to sow.
Only problem is, when this man of God was presented with a fake situation, he still proceeded to prescribe a sizable dosage of seed to unblock the problem — its nonexistence notwithstanding.
Apparently this seed of religious intransigence runs in their family after his mother was reportedly charged with offering miracle healing to an HIV patient.
The man’s brother also owns another kiosk of religious goodies, complete with a miracle mobile payment line.
It is this man, Dr Prophet Victor Kanyari that turned out to be the songstress’ husband. Initially, she had refused to pick any calls and it took the cajoling of an old friend to alert her of the calls.
“Yes, he is my husband,” she confirmed upon being asked.
Beyond that, the Groove Award nominee would not comment, insisting that things happen for a reason and beyond anticipation.
“To me, he’s a husband and I cannot comment beyond that because I would be doing the wrong thing,” she added.
Asked what she though of the whole affair, she preferred to leave it in the hands of God and not try to justify anything as it were, in her words, none of her business.
Before the revelation, there were media reports that Bayo was married to a mysterious man whom she described as “a good man with a good heart”, but not much else was known.
The gospel singer famous for hit song 11th Hour confirmed that they got married in a ‘super private’ ceremony in November 2011 that observed all the spiritual and traditional tenets required of a wedding.
“I don’t like big weddings especially after I saw a close friend of mine go through a bad experience. Ours was simple but we had God in our midst and that’s what matters,” she disclosed.
Beyond that, details remain sketchy. Not even the mention of a location or witnesses suffices despite our insistence.

In fact her biggest apprehension seemed to be the bad publicity that the story would bring hot on the heels of her album release. She confessed that much as she understands Kenyans, she is not good with pressure.
On the contrary, she divulged that her husband was handling the pressure well and seemed unperturbed by the whole affair.
Whereas it is hard to determine whether he is a PhD holder, or trained pastor even, the Prophet is popular on TV screens and though not as popular as his wife, he too has recorded a song.
Oh yeah, the song’s title is Auuuui! I kid you not.
