Diamond's ex-girlfriend Penny explains why their relationship did not work

Last weekend during a live TV interview, Tanzanian top singer Diamond was put on the spot.

It was about a girl rumoured to be having his baby, an issue Diamond has been running away from since the story emerged last year. He was tense and for seconds, his head remained bowed as the TV host, a celebrity Clouds FM presenter, insisted on getting an answer as to whether the Nataka Kulewa singer was actually a father.

“It is either a yes or no,” the host insisted, challenging Diamond to clear the air, once and for all.

However, Diamond remained lip locked, his gestures and unease telling the story between the lines.

And what could be more hard than talking about a love affair involving the singer and VJ Penny, his immediate former girlfriend whom he left after finding out she was his relative, a blood relative he was having an intimate romantic affair for months.

The two had had a steamy affair open to public. They were planning to get married. That, until their fears were confirmed.

The February 2013, revelations that Penny was expecting Diamond’s baby got him on the headlines. However, it was all treated as mere speculations until Diamond admitted that the two had been in a serious relationship. And then came the break up.

However, very few have heard Penny’s side of the story since, and as Diamond was chickening from letting it all out, the Tanzanian beauty was all out, spilling the beans about the celebrity relative she had fallen for.

“Every girls dream is to get prince charming. If you want to know the truth about a man you are in a relationship with, ask him about marriage. We had been talking about marriage since we grew close…I am trying to move on,” VJ Penny, the shy blonde haired girl said, reminiscing about the romantic affair she had with Diamond adding that she had no regrets about their love.

“Things happened so fast. We hooked up during a project. He was moving to a new house and I was helping him renovate it. On this evening, we were exhausted and we took a bed nap together. The next thing we were seeing were photos of us on blogs with people saying we are a couple,” Penny revealed.

It was after this that the two became an item. Then, public pressure started mounting on them. Diamond had been dating Wema Sepetu, a celebrated former Miss Tanzania crown holder who happened to be Penny’s friend. Matters were complicated; Penny was digging in, loving her girlfriend’s man, a man who would turn to be her relative.

“As we got close, I got to know his family. The mum loved me. See, it is easy to know about a man through his mum. I loved her too. She said I was part of the family as I was taking care of her son.

“It was after this that we started talking about starting a family. However, we never had very deep conversations on this. After we parted ways, we agreed to remain best of friends. It has not been easy, but fate has it that way,” she said.

During an interview with Bongo5, Penny further clarified that she was open for a new man in her life, however, not admitting the latest rumour that she is dating a new catch, a known TV presenter.

“This is so hard. I don’t know why it is so hard, but I have moved on. I am trying to take my time to figure out the next man in my life. This time round, I will be more careful,” she remarked, adding that people had been too judgmental on her since the relations affair broke.

“We had great moments with Diamond, very great moments. It was fun while it lasted,” she added.

While Diamond does not deny that he is the father of Penny’s baby, the star has since distanced himself from rumours that the two had actually planned to wed mid last year.

“She is not my lover, but mother to my kid. I bought her a car for clinic and other stuff,” the Number One singer confessed, confirming that the new Hyundai IX35 Penny is driving is his gift to her.

Diamond’s grandmother and Penny’s grandmother happen to be sister, a matter that complicated the two lover’s affair.

However, the two did not know they were related until a family member revealed the truth to their family. They seemed inseparable until Diamond flipped the coin late last year — in December 26 during a performance at Leaders Club in Dar-es-salaam. He called his former flame Wema on stage, hinting that they were back together. The saga continues!
