Journalist Charlo Greene announcement she would be focusing of marijuana legalisation before storming off camera.

A TV reporter sensationally quit live on air to campaign for cannabis to be legalised.

Charlo Greene stunned viewers of US station KTVA by dramatically announcing she was quitting during the show to focus on her medical marijuana company Alaska Cannabis Club.

During Sunday's 10pm newscast, the journalist declared: "Now everything you heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness which begins with legalising marijuana here in Alaska.

"And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f*** it, I quit."

After Greene dropped her microphone and stormed off set, the show's anchor Alexis Fernandez appeared visibly shocked, muttering: "Alright we apologise for that. We'll, we'll be right back."

She has launched a campaign for cannabis reform in the state on Indiegogo, stating: "I'm Charlo Greene, the president and CEO of the Alaska Cannabis Club - Alaska's only legal medical marijuana resource.

"I just quit my news reporting job on live TV to announce that I am redirecting all of my energy toward helping to end a failed drug policy that has ruined the lives of far too many Americans.

She added: "I've seen the dirty campaign tricks and lies that prohibitionists have been using over the past several months to sway Alaskan voters firsthand."

KTVA apologised via Twitter, somewhat worryingly stating: "Viewers, we sincerely apologize for the inappropriate language used by a KTVA reporter on the air tonight.

"The employee has been terminated."
