Themra Epimedyumlu Macun also known as 'Asali ya Wazee'

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has cautioned the public against the use, sale or distribution of a falsified medical product commonly known as 'Asali ya Wazee', said to enhance sexual prowess.

PPB, in a statement dated November 21 said that the product which the manufacturer claims to be made from honey, contains Sildenafil, an active pharmaceutical ingredient which if consumed could endanger one's health and life.

"The Pharmacy and Poison Board wishes to alert the public about a suspected falsified product, Themra Epimedyumlu Macun, manufactured by Veysi Topuz. The product, commonly referred to as "Asali ya Wazee" is promoted for its alleged sexual enhancement properties and it is claimed to be 100 per cent herbal," the Pharmacy Board noted.

According to PPB, the alleged herbal drug contains sildenafil, an ingredient which is prescribed for management of erectile dysfunction and hypertension.

The ingredient is classified as a prescription-only drug, meaning excessive consumption threatens health.

"Any person found dealing or distributing these products will be subjected to legal action," said PPB.

The public has been urged to use health products only approved by the Pharmacy Board.
