Bonfire Adventures CEO Simon Kabu and his wife Sarah Kabu have claimed they have surpassed the millionaires club and are now billionaires.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya, the elated couple said their tours and travel company has grown tremendously and is now worth billions.

"We thank God that we are now in the billionaires club officially. It means that our company is worth billions now," said Sarah.

The birth of Bonfire Adventures

Speaking on the conceptualization of Bonfire Adventures during a previous interview with The Standard, the company CEO revealed that he and Sarah were part of a team that organized a team-building getaway to Lukenya that turned out so well that requests to plan for more started streaming in almost immediately.

"Before we even started dating (Sarah and I), we were in an online young professional group that organized an end-of-year team-building getaway at Lukenya in Machakos County. We did it so well, those who missed requested we organize another. We did that and they liked it. Sarah and I organized a third one to Naivasha and someone in the group asked whether we can do team building and we said, yes!" narrated Kabu.

According to the businessman, they only started out with Ksh10,000 which they used to buy a desk for their physical location after the requests became overwhelming.

"We did our first team building for a bank. When they asked what name should be on the cheque, we were dumbfounded because all along, we thought they would pay us in cash! We quickly searched for a business name and registered a company. The funny thing is we had to keep the cheque for over three months because we did not have a bank account! That's how Bonfire Adventures was born. We started with KSh10, 000, which we used to buy a desk from a relative in town," he went on.

Top brand

For seven consecutive years, Bonfire Adventures has bagged the award of Kenya's best travel company and emerged top as Kenya's leading travel agency during the World Travel Awards 2022.

Speaking during last year's Topscore Brands Awards ceremony, Simon attributed the company's success to consistency and hard work, adding that working alongside his wife has made everything easier.

"It's funny that today marks exactly 15 years since I met my wife and also started this business together with her, we have come along away as good friends, couples, business partners," he said.
