President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday banned political and social gatherings for 30 days as he announced a raft of measures to stem rising infections as Kenya experiences the third wave of Covid-19.
A directive that immediately impacted the entertainment industry and saw events roll back resumption plans. Among those hit by the ban was Park n’ Chill, a drive-in social event curated by DJ Pierra Makena where revellers get to party at the comfort of their cars.

The bi-monthly event which normally attracted hundreds at the Carnivore Grounds and had become a darling to many partygoers in the capital was expected to celebrate its 16th edition with several deejays, among them, Dj Meal-tone, Dj Coco, Jay the Dj and Dj Sos slated to perform.
It was, however, shut down by security officers over what she termed as a misrepresentation of Uhuru’s new guidelines. “I was just informed that the police has cancelled all events and had no choice but to comply. The cops just shut down without considering which event works and which don’t,” Makena told Standard Entertainment and Lifestyle.

Adding: “I apologize to all our fans who had planned to attend the concert today. For months we have been like a family, creating a social event that strictly observes social distancing, the only show that participants only enjoy from the comfort of their cars as it is the only drive-in social event in Kenya.”
