Popular Kenyan singer Esther Akoth alias Akothee famed for her charitable heart recently opened up on the struggles she has had to endure following the launch of her foundation.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the singer accused conniving individuals and corporates of taking advantage of the fact that Akothee Foundation was under her to promote themselves and their brands.

“The foundation has made the brand very vulnerable, people are taking advantage of the fact that its Akothee running behind it, some corporates have invited me to their offices, promised huge contributions and after getting direct contacts with me, photos, that’s the end when I follow up on what they promised, it's water under the bridge, and I look like a bother - God is seeing you,” Akothee started by saying.

The Lotto crooner went on to explain that cons are having a field day using the name of her foundation to swindle unsuspecting Kenyans; a problem she says can be solved if only her fans followed instructions

“Some fans insist to talk to me first before they contribute, I wonder why they feel so special and that I Akothee must talk to them before they send their contributions, that's why they get into the trap of one conman/woman, Esther Anyango what makes them different from those who just see the Paybill 205024 and do the necessary. The spirit of entitlement is overwhelming in society,” she added.

Stalkers and lazy workers

Not only that, but Akothee also revealed that she has had to deal with fans stalking her at her house. She admitted to almost calling the police on one Sam after he came to her house countless times in the name of wanting to contribute towards the foundation.

“I have people stalking me in the name of they want to contribute to the foundation, even coming to my doorstep. One Sam came almost 4 times saying he has 50,000 pounds. He follows my life on Instagram stories and cooks his package, he was given the bank details and office address.

“The police called him so they could go and collect the contribution he had, he then switched off his phone, but he insisted on coming to my home, saying we met at the golf, he knows me from a long time, we were friends, I sincerely don't know this annoying person. I almost got him arrested for stalking me.

“I have people who come to work as volunteers for the foundation after they are not able to deliver and I release them, they start asking for a monthly salary, even if they just carried one carton of tissue,” she wrote.

Grateful

Despite the shortcomings, Akothee went on to assure that she is indeed grateful for the opportunity to help those in need.

“Above all, I would like to tell you that, it looks easy on cameras, but at times I even go to bed without food for being exhausted, I don't want anyone to sympathize with me, for me charity is a calling, no one has forced me into it, I have my fulfilment when I create change and make someone smile. For those who wish to tarnish the name of the foundation, just know that this foundation is a unique one, it’s guided by the spirit of God, and there is totally nothing you can do other than making noise for your own fulfilment, gossip is cheap and available, it’s mainly done with bitter people.”
