While licensed firearm holders swung into action to assist police units combating suspected Al-Shabaab militants at 14 Riverside complex on Tuesday, one elderly woman also saw a unique opportunity to lend a hand.

The unidentified woman, instead of joining the huge crowd that had milled in the area, instead prepared tea and buns for the officers at the scene.

A befitting breakfast for our men and women in uniform who had braved long hours in a successful push to neutralize the gunmen who stormed the premises on Tuesday at around 3 pm.

Photos of the woman, in her show of kindness and service to the nation, have moved hearts and have been shared widely with many commending her work.

A rose in an otherwise dark day.

Here are some off the reactions...

There is a photo circulating where an elderly woman is serving tea to the military men and women at Riverside in the wee hours of the morning. God bless that mama. What she chose to do to our service men and women is pure kindness. — Frank Ochari (@frank_ochari) January 16, 2019

She reminds me the work of our African women during the pinnacle of colonialism... The likes of Marshal Muthoni... She is a woman of dignity — Lavlidzz (@Keino2Keino) January 16, 2019
