Tanzanian music heavyweights Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny have finally come out to apologize to Tanzania Music regulatory board Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa (BASATA) after they were banned from performing in and outside the country.

In a short clip that they uploaded on Instagram, Diamond and Rayvanny struck a conciliatory tone urging the board to back down on their ban.

The two expressed regret on their decision to defy several orders given out by the board regarding their music, saying they own up their mistakes.

Japo tunajitahidi kuwa vijana wa mfano bora kwenye Taifa letu, lakini kama tulivyoumbwa binadam hatuwezi kupatia siku zote, lazma itatokea siku tutateleza tu… Ila utelezapo, ni vyema kulijua kosa na kulirekebisha ili kesho na kesho kutwa lisijirudie (As much as we are trying to be good role models in the country, at times we mess up as we are also human beings. But it is advisable as you said, for one to know the mistake he has done and not repeat it again).”

“Mwenyezi mungu atusimamie na kutuongezea juhudi na maarifa katika kazi zetu ili kwa pamoja tuzidi kuukuza muziki wetu na kuendelea kuiwakilisha vyema na kulipa sifa nzuri na heshima nchi yetu (May God lead our way so that we represent our country well in music and draw respect to our nation,”

The development drew mixed reactions from social media users with some arguing the stars had done nothing wrong to warrant apology. Others hailed their move saying it will set a good precedent.

BASATA banned the two from performing on any shows or organizing any concert in and outside Tanzania last week citing indiscipline and disrespect to the body after the two continued to perform their song Mwanza that was banned over vulgar lyrics.

The duo also refused to pull it down from YouTube as ordered.

However, Babu Tale, Diamond’s manager said that scheduled shows will go on as planned and promised to strike a deal with BASATA.
