Gospel artiste Papa Dennis has featured Jamaican artiste Cecile in his new song, ‘I am Blessed’.
Papa Dennis, who won Best Gospel Artiste of the Year Award at Afrimma, disclosed in an interview with a local radio station that his manager reached out to Cecile’s manager and they recorded the new song separately in Kenya and in Jamaica.
“My managers connected me with her managers and we did the song. She recorded her verse from there and I did mine here and the beat of the song is by Sappy,” said Papa Dennis.
This comes amidst mix reactions among netizens who are concerned with Kenyan gospel artists collaborating with secular artistes.
In the past, Gospel musicians like Willy Paul and Bahati have come under fire for collaborating with secular artistes like Harmonize and Aslay.
This caused a stirred in the gospel industry with fellow artists coming out to defend one of their own.
Janet Otieno, a gospel artiste, in a past interview was of the opinion that there is nothing wrong with that but the song should remain Gospel.
“I would say it’s not that bad if a gospel artiste collaborates with a secular artiste, every human being needs to offer their praises to God, but it has to be purely gospel,” she said.
“There is one game changer when it comes to Christians because someone will say God led one to do, then we are in no position to argue with God in anyone’s life as a gospel artist. So if God has led you to do a song with a secular artiste then go ahead because the fruits will always bare at the end, good or bad fruits,” another gospel artiste, Moji Shortbabaa said in a past interview.
