The journey for any nation to the biblical Canaan is in jeopardy if the opposition is not on toes with the government of the day, this is according to House of Hope Bishop Godfrey Migwi.

Through a post on Facebook, Migwi wrote that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government had no choice but to be accountable to the people of Kenya.

Migwi stated that the handshake between Oppsition chief Raila Odinga and President Uhuru was watering down the role of the opposition.

“No country would ever get to Canaan without an opposition in tow, none! Any country without watchdog will go down slowly, and when the dog is silent which used to bark think twice as owner.

“Who's the opposition leader in Kenya? Where they and what are they doing? Why the silence but my grandfather told me you cannot speak when you're eating…” He wrote.

He added that the silence from the opposition on issues such as graft while they mingled with the government for posterity purposes was dangerous.

“Uhuru and his government would have no choice but be accountable.

“But now in the event of the handshake, everyone seems to be on the same team. No alarms and no accountability whatsoever. Only handshakes… Before we know it, our already deplorable country is no more,” added the preacher.

This comes amidst calls for the revamping of the Opposition watchdog role amidst piling, runaway graft.

Some activists such as Kenya Human Rights Commission executive director, George Kegoro, opine that the lines between government and opposition is now blurred.

“On paper we are a multiparty democracy, but in reality, we are a one-party state. This is the reality we must all admit,” said Mr Kegoro to The Standard.
