- NASA leaders have renamed Uhuru Park to Raila Odinga Park to correspond to their presidential candidate’s name, Raila Odinga
- The opposition has planned for daily protests from next week against the electoral commission
On Wednesday, NASA renamed Uhuru Park to Raila Odinga Park so as to correspond to their scheduled demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Siaya Senator James Orengo said that they will rename the park to Raila Odinga Park quoting that the opposition cannot be using the park to demonstrate against Jubilee and IEBC yet it bears a name similar to that of Jubilee’s presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Everywhere we go, Uhuru is being mentioned. So, from today as well as during our demonstrations, this park will be known as Raila Odinga Park. And so on Friday, we will meet at Raila Odinga Park,” Orengo said amid cheers from the crowd.
According to NASA, the protests are in response to agitations for reforms at IEBC before the repeat elections can be held following a directive by the Supreme Court after nullifying Uhuru’s win.
