Two suspects, including the alleged husband of a female gangster killed by police in May, were shot dead on Sunday in a police ambush in Weteithie, Juja.

Police said George Mwaniki alias Mwanii was killed together with another suspect identified only as Willy.

The two were felled after being trailed by officers from Nairobi following a botched robbery in Kayole.

According to police, Mwanii was the husband of slain female gangster Clea Adi Vybz aka Clair Njoki, who was also killed in a police ambush in Kayole.

Mwanii had been on the run for 5 months

Mwanii was also said to be the ringleader of the banned Gaza group, which has been blamed for killing police in Kayole, Dandora and Utawala estates as well as other criminal activities.

Kiambu police boss Adiel Nyange said the men were shot dead after being trailed from Nairobi.

“We recovered a Ceska pistol from the two slain men. They were wanted over violent crimes,” said Mr Nyange.

Five months

Mwanii has been on the run for almost five months.

The deaths were celebrated on social media groups 'Dandora Crime Free' and 'Dandora Love People.' The groups shared pictures of the two lying in pools of blood with a gun next to the bodies.

The social media sites are believed to be managed by police officers out to reach youths in Dandora, Kayole, Huruma, Umoja and other places who have ventured to crime.

The site administrator is identified as Hessy wa Kayole, Hessy wa Dandora, Hessy wa Huruma (and other estates) and usually warns suspected thugs on the loose that their days are numbered.

Hessy, the slang word for police, is known in Eastlands to be behind the war on armed crime. Before his death, Mwanii had gone on social media and accused police of killing Ms Njoki for no reason.

He addressed Hessy wa Kayole, the alleged police officer responsible for killing criminals in Eastlands.

“Hessy, stop taking the credit for killing Claire, saying that you had warned her, and just settle your grudge with me like a man instead of dragging innocent people into battles they know nothing of.”

At the time, police said Mwanii had tasked his Njoki with carrying his gun on the days he committed crimes in Nairobi.

Njoki was buried in a tense ceremony attended by a few friends and relatives in Murang’a County. She and a male suspect were killed in Kayole. Her accomplice known only as Minaj was killed days later

Details of their shooting were revealed on a Facebook account run by the unknown person claiming to be a police officer.

Crime scenes

The page has also been carrying pictures taken at crime scenes in the area and is known to many locals.

Police at the time said they had recovered an automatic pistol with serial numbers written in Arabic. The pistol had five bullets and the owner had shot three bullets whose spent cartridges were also recovered.

Police also said the woman was a known accomplice of the male suspect, identified only as Karis.

Police said women in crime was a new trend that was under investigation.

The killing of the two men on Sunday brings to nine the number of suspects killed over the weekend.
