Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua says he never had the time to "dress well" during the campaigns as he responds to Kenyans' criticism on his wardrobe faults.

Gachagua made the remarks during an interview on KTN News on Tuesday, September 13.

He said he was busy drumming up support for Ruto's presidential bid in the last four years, and, therefore, he didn't have the time to concentrate on his wardrobe.

"We had no choice but to go to the people [to seek their votes]. There was no luxury to work out and sit pretty. We had to attend eight to ten meetings every day. That's how, with the help of God, we were able to secure the win," said Gachagua.

"I had no luxury to think about my dressing. I was caring about my life. I had to look over my shoulder. My concern was to ensure I live to take care of my family. In the next three months, Kenyans will like what they see," he said.

Gachagua said he's aiming to lose ten kilogrammes - from 94kgs to 84kgs - in the next 30 days.

In a past interview on KTN News, Gachagua's wife, Dorcas Gachagua, said she ensured that she ironed his clothes before the former Mathira MP stepped out in the public.

"For the last 35 years that I've been married, I've ensured that I personally iron my husband's clothes. When he goes out there, and his shirt is creased or wears a pair of socks that don't match, then the blame should be put on me," she said.
