Nine female fans who spice up Kenyan football

They may not have attracted much attention, but there is still plenty of interest in what they are up to when the Kenyan Premier League kicks-off. I choose to call them ‘the beautiful crew of football’, or simply the ‘hot super fans of our local game’.

These are the women who give the beautiful game a different feel, egging on the boys on the pitch to unleash their best sides.

AFC LEOPARDs

Jennifer Leshinka aka Jeylow

Leshinka, 28, is a regular face at AFC Leopards matches. She has been Ingwe fan for nine years. Her friends call her Jeylow. Her best moment, she says, came in 2016 and 2017.

“Winning the GoTV Shield in 2016 and 2017 meant a lot for me as a fan,” she told The Nairobian, adding that, “A leopard will always be a leopard.”

Macklyne Mosoba aka La Belle

She has great love for AFC Leopards. She is strikingly beautiful and this has won her admiration from other fans. Popularly known as La Belle in football circles, Macklyne has been supporting Ingwe since 2008. Oh, and she can really get hysterical when Ingwe claw their opponents.

“I get caught up in the euphoria when Vincent Oburu scores or creates a move that results in a goal,” the 33-year old businesswoman told The Nairobian.

Ann Adagala aka Toto Finest

She is a living testimony that a combination of Taita and Luhya blood creates such beauty. No wonder she’s popularly known as Toto Finest. 

Adagala has supported AFC since 2009. She admits that the Mashemeji Derby can really be nerve-wracking.

“I love AFC Leopards and I get sick when we lose to Gor Mahia,” she says.

SHABANA                                                                      

Robina Ong’esa aka Robby Monty

Shabana may not be in the Kenyan Premier League, but they too have fans, beautiful ones. One such fan is Robina Ong’esa, a beauty who has been rooting for the ‘Glamour Boys’ since she was 10.

Robby Monty, as she is popularly known, is hopeful the team will rise to its once glorious days: “I was heartbroken when my team was relegated,” says Robina.

BANDARI

Jane Nyambura

She is regular fixture at Bandari games. Jane Nyambura, 29, fell in love with the Dockers in 2013 and has no plans of shifting allegiance.

“My best moments were in 2015 and 2016 when we won GoTV Shield and Super Cup respectively. But we are not done. I’m sure we can win KPL the next season. Watch this space!”

ZOO KERICHO

Chicha Wambui

She is a household name at Zoo Kericho games. Chicha often lights up the field and gives morale to the boys during the matches. She started supporting the Kericho-based club in 2012, when the club was still in the lower second division.

“Zoo has been my club since 2012. We’ve gone through bad times and good times,” she told The Nairobian. Chicha is a sign language interpreter and also the team manager for Pirates Cricket Club in Nakuru. As a cricket pro, she is the only leg spinner in the team.

WESTERN STIMA

Mercy Janira

She says she’s yet to recover from the pain of Western Stima’s relegation in 2017. She has been loyal to the club since 2009 and seeing it go down was almost unbearable. ‘Min Mempsey’ is the manager at Triple M Apparels, an organisation that deals in sportswear.

GOR MAHIA

Beatrice Obuong

The 31-year-old beauty has been a staunch Gor Mahia fan since 2007. She loves it whenever K’Ogalo beats arch-rivals AFC Leopards. But her support for the club is not always fun-filled.

“I hate it when we are financially down, to the extent that we are forced to beg for support from politicians and well-wishers,” she told The Nairobian.

Dorcas Adhiambo

‘Min Olunga’ as she is popularly knows, has been supporting Gor Mahia since 2013. The 26-year-old graphic designer observers that: “This year has been remarkable. Our team had very reliable players which made it easy to win the title. Our fan base keeps growing, and I love it.”
