Videos revolving around the hilarious adventures of ‘Jaymo Ule Msee’ have been posted on Facebook and YouTube every Tuesday for the last seven months.

They are so popular and have attracted viewers in large numbers.

One video about a man who was busted  by seven women for cheating on all of them attracted over 900,000 viewers.

Another hilarious video about a lady who comes with a committee for a date with ‘Jaymo Ule Msee’ garnered over 600,000 views online.

The brains behind this posts is Wilson Muirani, a digital account manager at Squad Digital, toasted as one of the largest digital agencies this part of the world.

Ironically, despite his capacity to pull off weekly comedy series, the 29-year-old has no background in comedy.

In fact, he studied Political Science at the University of Nairobi.

“I have always loved comedy, I was that boy in class who always made other students laugh. While in campus together with a friend called Maasai, we made people laugh, and I remember wishing back then for a platform where we could to make people laugh, but that never happened. And even after I got employed that desire would not let me be but I kept putting it off, but early this year I decided to go for it,” explains Wilson, adding that it came  Youtube and Facebook were an apt choice because “that is where people are.

It’s where we connect and share our experiences and ideas. The internet is the future, very many opportunities that we as young people can take advantage of and build new products and services. The best thing you can do is to identify a need in the market and plan to provide that need. If I waited for television then I would have waited forever, but social media provided an opportunity for me. That is what is so special about social media it is free and for everyone.”

‘Jaymo Ule Msee’ involves a crew and production team of 10.

“Although I am the main actor, I also write the script for every episode which is about 10-15 minutes. I am usually inspired by our Kenyan stories, the social issues and challenges that we interact with as Kenyans in our day to day experiences.

The reason why he able to amass such a large following is because we are able to tell Kenyan stories but in a different way; a good understanding of how social media works has also helped in understanding our content market. I also have a very great team and everyone is aligned to the vision which makes it easy for us to give the best,” says Wilson.

‘Jaymo Ule Msee’ is not Wilson’s first video though.

His first online project was straight out of campus when he developed an entertainment events portal back in 2010, www.whatshappening.co.ke - the second entertainment events portal after Kenya Buzz.

“I have always been very passionate about entertainment and after campus I decided to create a platform where people could go and find out about the latest entertainment events, the latest movies, just basically everything entertainment in 2010. I choose to follow my passion and while everyone was out job hunting. I eventually got a job in a bank but later quit to manage Whatshappening,” says Wilson Muirani.

Well it later paid off as the app for the site called “Whatshappening” ended up being a finalist in the Google Android developers Challenge.

He later sold the portal to a local media house which also employed him in the Digital Division where he worked for four years before joining Squad Digital early this year.

Is ‘Jaymo Yule Msee’  a passion or money project?

“It’s both, it depends on how you as an individual positions the brand to the market, but my advice to everyone is never to think about the money, simply give your all and be the best at what you do and the money will follow you later.”
