Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i

Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i ordered for the immediate transfer of a provincial administrator from Homa Bay County who attended his meeting while in civilian clothing.

The CS was on a tour last month to familiarise himself with chiefs, assistant chiefs, assistant county commissioners, deputy county commissioners and senior police officers working in the county.

While all the officers came in uniform, Richard Anditi Ajwang, the Rachunyo DCC, was clad in his civilian clothing.

He had served for one month in Rachuonyo sub-county after being transferred from Bondo in the same capacity.

Anditi’s conspicuous presence was taken as defiance and disrespect to his seniors, among them Matiang’i, Nyanza Regional Commissioner (RC) Moffat Kingi and Homa Bay County Commissioner (CC) Irungu Macharia.

“All the officers wore their official uniform apart from DCC Ajwang. During introductions CC Macharia commented that Ajwang had decided not to wear his uniform,” said a source.

An angry Matiang’i is said to have picked his phone and called Harambee House where he issued instructions.

“Before the meeting ended, the DCC had been transferred to Wajir County,” added the source.

Some administrators think the treatment of their colleague was unfair, arguing that uniforms are colonial relics that should be abandoned.

“As civil servants, we don’t understand the rationale behind having administrators put on uniform,” said an administrator.

Macharia, the Homa Bay County boss, while denying that Anditi was already in Wajir, acknowledge disciplinary action had been taken against the administrator for conducting himself in a manner to suggest he had no respect for his superiors and lacked commitment to serious matters.

“I am not sure if he is in Wajir, but what I know is that he is in Nairobi right now after handing over here,” said the commissioner.
