A court in Kericho sentenced a man who defiled a minor to life imprisonment.
23-year-old Philip Kiprotich Rono, alias Fire, will now cool his feet in the slammer for the rest of his life for defiling the four-year-old girl.
The prosecution told the court that Rono committed the heinous act after luring the minor to a Napier grass plantation on July 27, 2017 at Menet village in Soin/Sigowet sub-county, Kericho at around noon.
The court heard that it took the effort of a neighbour passing by the plantation to save the minor who was pleading for help. Rono vanished on sensing that the neighbour wanted to beat him.

“The neighbour approached the complainant who was bleeding as she carried her bloody underwear and rushed her to Sigowet sub-county hospital for treatment but also informed the father of the four-year-old girl,” reads court papers.
The minor was referred to Kericho county referral hospital for surgery after she was found to have a tear to the lower part of her vagina and a fresh torn hymen which Sogowet could not handle.
She later spend 18 months in the referral hospital after undergoing surgery to correct her raptured reproductive system.
In mitigation, Rono pleaded for leniency saying he would never repeat the offence.
Kericho resident magistrate Benjamin Limo said the findings of a clinical officer - a key witness - revealed that the accused had been defiled by Rono.
