TSC to promote more than 20,000 teachers

The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has announced plans to promote 28,288 teachers across various grades this year, in a bid to foster professional growth.

Speaking during the release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results in Nairobi, TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi stated that the commission promoted some 59,792 teachers in the past two years.

“We encourage all eligible teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to advance their careers as we also recognise their hard work,” he said, applauding the government for increasing funding to the education sector.

According to TSC, there are currently 229,292 primary school teachers across the country, while an additional 60,000 are undergoing training to transition into secondary school teaching roles.

“These programs ensure that our teachers are equipped with the skills needed to effectively implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and address the diverse needs of our learners,” Muturi added.

Meanwhile, Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) CEO David Njegere announced that sample examination papers for the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment are freely available on the council’s portal.

“We are aware there are individuals who might try to download these materials and sell them to schools,” he warned, cautioning against such exploitation.

The 2024 KCSE exams were conducted in 10,755 centers, with 965,501 candidates sitting for the tests—an increase from 903,138 candidates in 2023.]
