The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has said it will hire 21,550 teacher-interns in January 2023 to bridge the teacher-shortage gap in Kenya.
TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia said on top of hiring the teacher-interns, the commission will employ 9,000 more teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
"The TSC thanks the government for finding resources to allow us to recruit an average of 30,000 teachers in an exercise we are expected to conclude next month (January 2023)," she said on Wednesday, December 21.
The TSC boss spoke at the Mitihani House in Nairobi during the release of the 2022 KCPE exam results.
"I wish to urge all unemployed teachers to apply for these jobs by Friday, December 23," said Macharia.
In administering the 2022 KCPE exam, the TSC chief said there were 28, 408 center managers, 28,727 supervisors, 74,990 invigilators and 5,647 examiners.
A total of 1,233,852 candidates wrote the 2022 KCPE exam.
