The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) on Wednesday struck a deal with Kajiado County Government to set up a new college at the county hospital.

KMTC Board chairman Philip Kaloki, acting CEO Phillip Kiptoo and Governor Joseph Ole Lenku met and finalized on a deal that will see the County Government offer land for the college at the Kajiado County Hospital as well as build some infrastructure such as classrooms and laboratories.

“We shall give the land and in the next financial year set up funds for infrastructure. We are happy at the new collaboration which will inject more qualified personnel in the health sector and still create more jobs,” said Mr Lenku.

The Governor saud President Kenyatta’s Big Four in which health is one, will succeed further if there was more qualified personnel to offer the required medical services.

Mr Lenku said his Government would engage private investors to put up hostels in Kajiado Town for students and staff.

Mr Kaloki said the new agreement with the county will also entail expansion of the already existing campus in Loitokitok town which has more than 400 students.

“In Loitokitok, we shall upgrade our nursing and clinical services uptake. We have even given a new 51 seater bus to the college to boost its capacity,” said Mr Kaloki.

Mr Kaloki said the new partnership will promote equity as far as jobs in the health sector was concerned.

Mr Kaloki and Mr Lenku agreed to employ affirmative action on the enrollment of student in the existing and upcoming colleges to boost the local community’s access to training and job opportunities.

The KMTC team revealed there were opportunities in nursing, clinical medicine and Medical engineering and these were the areas they are focusing on.
