Police in Eldoret town in Uasin Gichu County are investigating the origin of a leaflet dropped by a suspected arsonist in a school compound in the region.

The Principal, Paul Boit Boys High School, Mr William Kemei said they recovered a leaflet in the school compound and suspect it was  secretly dropped by a potential arsonist.

"Its true we have a copy of  the leaflet which is very suspicious. A suspect had threatened to burn the school but we have handed the matter to police to investigate. It's not clear whether the suspicious writing in a paper originated from a student or an outsider," Mr Kemei said.

Kemei said in the last four days tension has been high in the school following the discovery and  they are questioning some  Form Three and Four students over the issue.

The Principal said one of the students they are interrogating was, along with some other students, spotted behaving suspiciously within the school compound.

"We have in the past  heard from some students in the neighbouring schools complain  of boarding facilities and food.  Peer influence  and some personal differences could also be some reasons why some fire incidents have been reported in schools," He said.

Kemei said the school management were also investigating utterances made by a certain primary school teacher in a matatu reportedly alleging that  'Paul Boit Boys High School in Uasin Gishu County was likely to burn'.

Following the  emerging threats the School has increased the guards from five to eight to man the school and some police officers have been deployed in the school compound.
Eldoret Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Samuel Mutunga confirmed receiving the WhatsApp text of the suspicious leaflet.

"We have launched an investigation into the matter.Our officers were sent to the ground to piece some evidence and we have also asked the School Principal to avail some eight students to the police station for interrogation,'' Mr Mutunga said.
