Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has written to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) asking it to investigate the shooting of a Makueni resident.

Peter Ngolany'e, a water vendor, was shot while going about his business in Wote town during the anti-government protests.

"I hereby request IPOA to take up this matter urgently and bring to book all or any officer who was responsible for the death of Mr Ngolany'e," says Mutula.

According to the County boss the bullet that went through the chest cavity of Ngolany'e causing him to bleed to death.

He says that the residents are keeping the bullet that killed Ngolany'e as well as an 18 year old identified as Brian Muendo in Emali.

"There is no legal justification for the police to shoot unarmed Kenyans particularly when they are demonstrating peacefully or going about their normal business."

According to Mutula, it is disheartening that despite several complaints to the police, they continue to use live bullets against Kenyans, "the Kenya police have with reckless abandon shot dead several Kenyans leaving their families in deep shock/agony."

"I urge political leaders to urgently put an end to the strife and slow, but steady slide to anarchy in Kenya," he said.
