Two men 'fought to death outside bedroom of woman they both loved'

Two men caught in a love triangle fought to the death outside the bedroom door of the woman they both loved, a murder trial heard. Kevin Syms, 53, and Nicholas Tame, 46, were both trying to get up to their lover's room after all three shared a taxi home after a night out. But a court heard love rival Syms pushed Mr Tame down the stairs - before finishing him off hitting him over the head.

Prosecutor Patrick Harrington QC said both had been in a relationship with the woman and went home after drinking together. Mr Harrington said: "The two men got into an argument and Syms pushed Mr Tame down the stairs. "A flailing Mr Tame eventually landed at the bottom of the stairs. He was alive but unconscious."

Swansea Crown Court heard he suffered "horrendous injuries" when he was struck with a "vicious blow" to his head. Police were not able to find the object which caused Mr Tame "massive head injuries" in the woman's house in Pyle, near Bridgend, South Wales. But Syms denied he had pushed Mr Tame down the stairs, saying he had only pushed his rival into a bedroom door earlier in the evening.

He also claimed he was in the woman's bed when he heard him fall. Syms was found with Mr Tame's blood on his shoes and trousers after the alleged murder in December last year. He left the house but returned after the woman called for an ambulance.

He told police at the scene when questioned: "Is he OK?" and "They're going to blame me for this." Syms, of Porthcawl, denies the murdering of Mr Tam, of North Cornelly, near Bridgend, South Wales.
The hearing at Swansea Crown Court continues.
