USA: A group of 600 university students took part in a survey which revealed a person's personality matches what type of pet they choose to have.
The fur is sure to fly after a study found that 'cat people' are more intelligent than their doggy counterparts.
A recent survey of 600 university students in America revealed that there are distinct differences between those who prefer the company of felines over canines.
Participants who described themselves as 'cat people' edged out the 'dog people' when it came to brains and were also found to follow the rules more.
Research results were revealed by Denise Guastello, an associate professor of psychology at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
She made the announcement at the annual Association for Psychological Science meeting.
"It makes sense that a dog person is going to be more lively, because they're going to want to be out there, outside, talking to people, bringing their dog," Guastello said.
"Whereas, if you're more introverted, and sensitive, maybe you're more at home reading a book, and your cat doesn't need to go outside for a walk."
The study indicates that you can determine someone's personality depending on their choice of pet.
It wasn't all bad news for puppy pals as they clearly outnumbered their catty rivals.
Over half of those surveyed identified as dog people compared to only 11% swaying towards tabbys.
The remaining students said they liked both or neither animal.
