Thousands of Kenyans defied the night chill and camped inside the newly upgraded Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, determined not to miss a seat at the first-ever Madaraka Day celebrations held in the county.

By midnight, the 12,000-seater stadium, transformed from a modest 3,000-capacity venue into a modern, state-of-the-art facility, was packed to capacity.
