What began as an innocent quest for relaxation ended in terror and humiliation for one unsuspecting man in Kasarani, Nairobi, after a spa appointment turned out to be a well-orchestrated trap.
Lured by what seemed to be a luxurious massage experience advertised online, the victim fell prey to two conmen posing as irresistible female therapists.
The duo, identified by police as Alex Mugo Wachira and Simon Chomba Mbogo, are accused of masterminding an elaborate social media scam that preyed on unsuspecting clients looking for comfort and care.
According to investigators, the suspects had crafted believable social media profiles complete with enticing photos of model-like women, purporting to offer high-end massage services.
But their trade was not in scented oils or stress relief, it was in deception and daylight robbery.
Drawn in by the illusion of beauty and professionalism, one man made his way to a supposed spa located along Lumumba Drive. Expecting a peaceful session under dim lighting and the soothing hum of soft jazz, he was instead greeted by a pair of masked robbers.
The charade collapsed as the 'therapists' dropped their feminine act, brandished knives, and revealed their true intent.
The man was reportedly forced to transfer Sh280,000 via mobile money to the fraudsters, before being robbed of his personal belongings and unceremoniously thrown out.
Following the incident, police in Kasarani launched a swift investigation, employing forensic technology to track the digital trail left by the culprits.
The pursuit led officers to the Kamiti prison area, where the duo was found allegedly enjoying the spoils of their deceit.
Wachira and Mbogo, the suspects, are set to face justice, as police prepare to arraign them. Authorities are also urging any other victims of the con to come forward and assist in building a stronger case against the suspects.
