Kericho County government has received Sh36 million to rehabilitate streets and estates roads in Kericho town.
Speaking during the launch of the project, Kericho governor Paul Chepkwony, said his administration had received funding through the Kenya Municipalities Program (KMP) to be used for the tarmacking of roads within Kericho municipality.
He said the project will include the construction of new drainage systems and the rehabilitation of the garbage site.
Chepkwony, said in an effort to empower unemployed youths in the area, the county will utilize them in the roads construction program and each youth will earn a minimum of Sh18,000 by the end of the two months program.
The governor said the county government will no longer tolerate littering around the town once the project is completed.
Chepkwony, also said his administration had entered into a partnership with Bluetechs Groups UK Ltd which will inject Sh1.6 billion for a 100 megawatts solar energy generation project and the part of power generated will be used to extend the streets lighting project within Kericho town.
He also disclosed that his administration had also set aside Sh450 Million in its budget to go towards the construction of access roads network with the 30 wards in the county.
“Rural access roads that have never been touched before are going to be opened up and every ward in the county is set to enjoy at least 15Kms of new access roads,” Chepkwony said.
He added that Kericho Green Stadium will also receive a facelift beginning with the construction of a perimeter wall, shades and fitting of seats.
