Kilifi,Kenya; Former Kaloleni MP Samuel Kazungu Kambi has filed an election petition in the Malindi High Court seeking to nullify the election of Mr Gunga Mwinga Chea as Kaloleni MP.
Kambi, who is assistant minister for Medical Services, has filed the petition on grounds that there was a low voter turnout in 12 polling stations following violence that erupted in the area on polling day.
He says since there was a serious breach of peace in the constituency on the night of March 3 and the dawn of March 4, there was low voter turnout.
Through his lawyer Wamuti Ndegwa, Kambi claims that the low voter turnout was attributed to various polling stations that were burnt down and election officials attacked and seriously injured on the morning of March 4.
The former MP, therefore, wants the court to nullify the election of Chea and order for fresh polls.
