Police in Naivasha have recovered bhang worth more than Sh2 million in Kayole estate following an operation.
The suspects managed to escape from a rented house where the bhang was recovered.
This came as the security committee expressed concern over upsurge in drug peddling to school going children mainly in informal settlements.
Speaking after the recovery and destruction of the bhang, Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Josiah Odongo said it had been ferried from Tanzania.
Odongo revealed that investigating officers have identified the suspects behind the illegal trade and it was a matter of time before they arrest them.
“We have managed to recover assorted bhang worth Sh2.1 million and one of the suspects has been positively, identified and it is a matter of time before we nab him,” he said.
He thanked the public for volunteering information that led to recovery of the bhang and raised concern over drug abuse among the youths.
Odongo said that a multi-agency team had been formed to crackdown on drug peddlers and those found culpable will face prosecution.
“We are warning landlords who are hosting drug peddlers that they will also be arrested and charged in court with abating crime,” he said.
The DCC further warned that the war on illicit brew had been heightened.
