High-ranking individuals approached a Senator to accept a Cabinet Secretary position, but he declined.

“I would like to state that yes, I was "told” that I could be considered for the position of Cabinet Secretary. I didn't take it seriously, and I was even told who went to fight me not to get the job," said Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

Onyonka claimed: “ I declined because my party ODM had not told us what our agenda in the government was going to be.”

The Senator said: “Even if I was asked to join the government officially, my voters would have asked me to decline, and I would have politely declined the offer. This is what I told those who were requesting me to take up the position.”

He added: “It is simple. Positions do not excite me. My position as the oversight officer in chief is lovely. Some of us stand for some small things. Positions and money are the least important. What am I going to do in government that I am unable to do now?”

Onyonka said those in the Opposition have been saying they must make it strong but don't know what happened.

“I also believe, like the GenZ, that those jobs should have been given to the young, untainted technocrats who would start fixing this messed-up country. I have done my bit and am proud of where I am now. What we are saying is that your leaders and your country are broken."

He added: "What you do with that information is up to you. A lion chewing a few pieces of grass saves its life. That is how a lion kills warms. I am not in the matrix unless we agree to clean up. A good name is better than silver and gold. Watch this space."

Onyonka believes that leaders have broken the country slowly and skillfully. "Some of us will stand to be counted. If the ODM side comes with solutions, on how to fix the rot, I will support them."

Onyonka’s clan mate Ogamba Migos was nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Education to replace Ezekiel Machogu from Kisii County.
