The situation has forced the Kenya Red Cross to opt for airdrops as more people call for urgent help.

For the better part of Friday, many parts of Mombasa were marooned with residents grappling to walk through the flooded waters.

For instance, in Bamburi area, residents had to use a rope to cross from one side of the road to the other.

"These efforts are crucial to prevent physical obstructions to water flows, thereby reducing the risk of flooding. Of particular concern is the welfare of residents in informal settlements who are often the most vulnerable during such natural disasters," Nassir said.
