A prison warder collapsed and died on Wednesday afternoon while manning exams at Kapchepkoro Secondary School in Sotik.

Bomet County Police Commander Robinson Ndiwa said the officer complained of chest pain before collapsing.

The officer was immediately rushed to Kaplong Mission Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

"It is very unfortunate that we lost one of our officers this afternoon who had been deployed to man exams. The officer died while receiving treatment at Kaplong Mission Hospital," Ndiwa said.

He said investigations have been launched into the cause of death.

Ndiwa noted that the officer, who was based at Sotik GK Prison, had been deployed to the school in Chemagel Ward since Monday and had not shown any signs of sickness.

"The officer had not shown any signs of sickness since Monday when the exams kicked off," he said.

The police commandant assured that despite the incident, exams continued uninterrupted at the school.

"We immediately deployed another officer to take charge of exams at the school, and there was no interruption," Ndiwa said.

A post-mortem is expected to ascertain the cause of death.

"We would want to know what caused the death of the officer, and we expect a post-mortem after the family is notified of the incident," he said.

Ndiwa assured that there were no incidents affecting exams in Bomet so far.

He said transport and distribution of exams has been smooth despite the heavy rains.

"It is also worth reporting that distribution of exams has been very smooth despite the heavy rains that are being witnessed.. all centres in the county get their exam material on time, and the transition between morning and afternoon papers has been very smooth," he said.

Meanwhile candidate at Kipsuter Secondary in Chepalungu Sub County was forced to sit exams in hospital after giving birth on Tuesday night.

The girl was rushed to Sigor Sub County hospital after experiencing labour pains and delivered a baby boy.

The school had to ferry exams to the hospital.

Education officials from the Sub County said she will sit all her exams at the hospital until when she will be discharged.
