A police officer is being held over the murder of a taxi driver whose body was found dumped in a dam in Murang'a County on October 14.
Detectives said they believed the officer had crucial information about the case.
The officer, who is based at Lang'ata Police Station, had been interdicted. He was arrested by detectives from the Nairobi Area Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, on the evening of Thursday, October 26, at his rented house in Ongata Rongai.
Detectives believe the officer has important information that will help unravel the mystery behind the murder of the 47-year-old Evans Mochara.
Mochara's body was found floating in Maragua dam, two days after he was reported missing through a report made at Kayole Police Station.
The victim was reportedly abducted by unknown people who stormed his house in Mihang'o estate on October 12.
Detectives familiar with the investigations told The Standard the police officer was arrested after phone call data revealed he was among the last people to communicate with Mochara.
On Monday, October 16, the police arrested Mochara's wife, Teresiah Masese, over the murder. Ms Masese was presented before a Makadara court where the police sought to hold her for 21 days to conclude their investigations. A ruling on the application by the police is pending in court.
The family of Mochara has positively identified his body.
Police are yet to establish the reasons why Mochara was killed.
