157 great Kenyan citizens made outstanding contributions, which the Kenyan government recognised and honoured on Friday during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
These honorees included people who were instrumental in the country's struggle for independence as well as those who had achieved great success in a variety of disciplines, elevating Kenya's reputation around the world.
Levis Musumba, an award-winning journalist and producer at KTN News, was one of the feted Kenyans. "Culture Quest," his innovative television program airing on KTN News, served as the foundation for his acclaim. "Culture Quest" has been on an astonishing journey for him since its inception in 2018 to capture the rich cultural diversity of many communities throughout Kenya.
Musumba's work on "Culture Quest" has painted an authentic and vibrant portrait of Kenya's myriad cultural expressions and stands as a testament to the power of media in challenging stereotypes and fostering positive attitudes towards cultural diversity.
By accurately portraying the traditions, rituals, and ways of life of various communities, Musumba's show has made substantial strides in promoting cultural understanding and harmony in the country.
One of the most notable achievements of his program was the feature of the Suba language's alarming decline in the Lake Region. This documentary not only garnered international attention but also created a renewed effort to salvage the language.
Musumba's storytelling prowess effectively conveyed the urgency of preserving the Suba language, a testament to his commitment to shedding light on critical cultural issues.
His appointment as a member of the media advisory committee on national Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022 further exemplifies his dedication to safeguarding Kenya's cultural wealth.
