A detective from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, October 11 died by suicide after shooting himself in the chest.

The Standard has established that the detective, a 58-year-old officer arrived at his workplace at DCI headquarters in Nairobi along Kiambu Road on Wednesday morning at around 5.15 am.

He would park his car at the carwash next to the forensic lab gate, where he then took his pistol and shot himself in the chest.

He was found dead by his colleagues who heard the gunshot and rushed to the scene.

Sources intimated to The Standard that Government Pathologist Dr Johanen Odour and a team from homicide arrived shortly after at the headquarters.

A search was conducted on the car but no suicide note or clue was found to explain the officer's actions.

An investigation to unravel the cause of his death has been launched.

At the time of publishing, DCI boss Amin Mohamed was yet to issue a statement.
