The meeting hosted by the president at Nairobi's State House was attended by Delaware Senator Coons, Meg Whitman, and Foreign Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.

The three held discussions on different areas including matters of climate change, global security issues, and integrated trading.

"Kenya is keen on enhancing its relations with the United States to expand trade and investment opportunities for citizens of both nations. This mutually beneficial partnership will extend to climate change mitigation efforts and environmental conservation," Ruto noted.

Coons arrived in Kenya on Saturday, August 12, with an aim to catalyze the ongoing bipartisan talks.

A few days after his arrival, he met up with Odinga in what was referred to as an indoor meeting for the purpose of "exchanging notes".

Coons later met up with the president today, days after his meeting with Odinga.

Turns out he is not the only dignitary that has met with Ruto shortly after meeting up with the Opposition.

On August 5 in Entebbe, Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni met with former president Uhuru Kenyatta in his capacity as the facilitator of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Peace process.

Days later, Museveni held a closed-door meeting in the same state with Ruto to discuss a trade blockade.
