Sudan extends closure of airspace until August 15

The Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority has extended the closure of Sudan's airspace until Aug. 15.

The closure only excludes humanitarian aid and evacuation flights.

This is according to a statement released by Khartoum International Airport on Monday, July 31 morning.

Sudanese airspace was closed to regular traffic after a military conflict erupted between the country's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April.

The Sudanese aviation authority had made the closure effective up to July 31.

The authorities explained that the exception is to ensure that essential supplies reach those in need and facilitate the safe evacuation of individuals affected by the conflict.
