Police in Homa Bay are investigating the death of a government officer whose body was discovered in Lake Victoria on Wednesday.

The man, identified as David Kiprop and whose body was found at Koginga beach, worked with the Ministry of Information, based in Homa Bay County.

His colleagues said he had been missing from work for days before his body was discovered.

County ICT officer George Tukiko said they have no idea what caused Kiprop's death.

"We do not know what caused his death. He was last seen in the office on Thursday last week," Tukiko said.

He said Kiprop did not complain of having any issues before his disappearance, even as he described him as an officer who was committed to his work.

Kiprop was described as a reserved man who lived a secret life.

"He was a very reserved and quiet man whom many people knew little about," Tukiko said.

Homa Bay sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Monica Berege said they had launched investigations into the death.

She said they are also waiting for a postmortem report to reveal what killed him.

"Our officers are pursuing the incident. A postmortem report will enable us to know the cause of the death," Berege said even as the body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
