"My administration is now focused on purchasing a strip of land at the Londiani road junction. The one acre will be designated as a market, and we expect the national government to construct a drive-through road for traders to conduct their business without the fear of another accident," said Dr Mutai.
In addition to the funds raised at a requiem mass on Tuesday, the government has allocated more money to help the affected, according to the Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot.
The constituency suffered 14 casualties in the accident. He urged the families to open bank accounts to avoid misappropriation. "The verification process for the beneficiaries is currently underway," he said.
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot cautioned the families against falling prey to swindlers.
"Ambulance chasers have already begun contacting the families, offering to represent them in insurance claims. Most of them are con artists and people should be cautious," he said.
