Three killed, six injured in another landmine attack in Mandera

Three people have been killed and six others injured in an attack in Elele location, Mandera South Sub County.

While confirming the incident, Mandera County Commissioner Amos Mariba said a rescue operation had been sent to the scene and other passengers rescued.

"Some passengers who were critically injured in the incident are receiving treatment at Takaba Sub County Referral Hospital," he has told Standard Digital.

Police say one of the three casualties was not a local while the others who were masons were ferried to the Takaba Sub County Referral Hospital morgue.

According to the driver, Mr Siyat, the three passengers died after the Landcruiser they were travelling in was hit by an explosive believed to be an Improvised Explosive Device.

"The landmine had hit the vehicle from behind and harmed all the passengers in the rear seats. The vehicle has been damaged beyond recognition." Siyat has told The Standard Digital via a phone interview.

"One passenger died on the spot and the other two succumbed to injuries while on referral to Elwak Sub-county hospital."

The LandCruiser was a public service vehicle that had left Mandera town en route to Takaba town in Mandera West.

This attack happened barely a day after another vehicle belonging to the police was hit by a landmine, killing three people in the Guba location, Banisa Sub-County.
