Long-serving Turkana County Assembly clerk Linus Lokawa has been impeached over the delayed car and house loans for MCAs.

On Thursday, 42 out of 45 MCAs voted to remove the clerk during the impeachment motion moved by Nakalale ward representative Dedan Kalimapus.

The MCAs accused the clerk of delaying the car and house loans, forcing members to borrow bank loans which came with punitive interest rates, said majority leader Stephen Edukon.

"We have successfully passed the motion to remove the assembly clerk. The clerk should now go home and look for another job. MCAs have lost confidence in the clerk and unanimously voted to remove him," Edukon said.

Lowaka said he will move to court to stop his impeachment arguing he was employed by the County Assembly Public Service Board and that the MCAs had no powers to remove him from office.

He denied any wrongdoing and accused the MCAs of harbouring ill motives and impeaching him without approval by the Speaker.

"I am ready to challenge the decision in a court of law. The MCAs have no power to impeach me. The County Assembly Public Service Board was not involved," the embattled clerk said.
