The court has allowed the police to detain two suspects over the murder of a Nyamira-based secondary school deputy principal.

Trial magistrate Wa Kugwa Wahinya, sitting in Kisii, allowed the police to detain Cyprian Karuri and Pauline Moraa at the Nyanchwa Police Station for four days, pending further investigations into the killing of Thomson Ndege.

Ndege is said to have been stabbed on Sunday night at Pillars Club in Mosocho Sub Country in Kisii.

Investigating Officer Wycliffe Mburu had asked the court to have the two detained for 14 days pending conclusion of investigations.

However, Moraa's lawyer Hamphrey Mageto opposed the application, arguing that his client had no intention of interfering with the probe. "My client is a civil servant, and detaining her will interfere with her work calendar," said Mageto.

It's alleged that Karuri, 34, identified as Moraa's boyfriend in court documents, had accosted her in the company of the deceased while leaving a guest room.
