14 dead in Pwani University bus-matatu accident in Naivasha

Fourteen (14) people died after a Pwani University bus collided head-on with a 14-seater matatu in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The accident occurred at 1pm on Thursday, March 30.

The university bus was heading to Nakuru from Nairobi, when the driver of the vehicle lost control and hurtled onto oncoming traffic at Kayole area in Naivasha.

The 14-seater matatu involved in the crash was heading to Nairobi from Nakuru. The two vehicles, thereafter, landed in ditches in opposite sides of the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Waweru told The Standard that some of the deceased were students of Pwani University.

Several occupants were trapped in the wreckages of the two vehicles.

The injured victims, who were rescued, were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
